Wanna see inside my mind?

Well you can't. -evil cackle-
But I do have a scan of my sketchbook that I felt like posting because I have nothing better to do.

Click to enlarge, as per usual.

Anyway, I have to make a tower representing a social issue, but what I really wanted to do was try out the technique of wrapping people in tape to make copies of their body, so I decided I'd make mine out of people. Plus I wanted an excuse to make some more skeletons. But no heads, because I only have three weeks and I have to do everything else as well.
So now all I have to do (apart from actually making the thing) is to come up with some social issue that this tower represents. I'm thinking that it's going to be about how we feel the need to bring down our 'idols' AKA people living life in the public eye.
The little picture on the right is my test, using scotch tape and my own hand. That was rather awkward. I'm going to bribe my brother into being the model for the final version.

I love a pretty bird.

They had this on the front page of The Age's A2 liftout. It was about how society has changed in the way of greeting people, from calling cards to twitter. Anyway, I tend to draw on anything, and I decided that was this bird really needed was a bowler hat and monocle. Really. Click for a larger view.

And to My Ghoul Friday; You've got a good point. I shall have to look over my list and come up with a new person to fight.
Marilyn Monroe, perhaps?

Fight Club, Yes?

In yet another of my late night TV watching moments, I saw this ad. I've always wanted to do this, but now Pepsi's done it, everyone will know, not just the people who've seen Fight Club.

I'd fight Gandhi.

Dances With Jedi

Last night I was watching TV, as I am prone to do, what with me owning a TV and having no life and all.
The second series of So You Think You Can Dance started awhile ago (I assume, I haven't been paying much attention, as nobody dies in it), and they showed one of those "Vote for your favourites! Now let's have a quick re-cap of last night! Look at all the shiny things and don't forget to vote!!!" ads.
Which I don't really mind because I quite enjoy watching false enthusiasm by somebody who hasn't quite mastered an auto-cue. It makes me feel superior.

Anyway, I was watching the ad when I saw this:

Which really isn't such a great photo, but basically, I bolted upright from my usual slumped-across-the-whole-couch position, because I thought he was meant to be a Jedi.
Apparently not. A little searching took me to the official website, wherein it says that:
" they played Hip Hop vampires to BeyoncĂ©’s “Single Ladies” "
Talk about disappointing. Plus, hip hop vampires are so 2008.

However, shortly after, I found this, which was probably on just after the Jedi on the ad, while I was in a Star Wars inspired coma.

We're talking about the couple in white. Look familiar?
"They were to dance a Jazz routine by Project Moda that was inspired by the controversial film, “Clockwork Orange” and required them to attack one another with baseball bats."

I should watch So You Think You Can Dance more often.

Watch videos of the performances and some other stuff here.

Why people with capes are better than you.

Capes vs The Anti-cape.
My brother and I have this argument frequently.
I am, of course, pro-cape.
All the best people have capes.
He counters this by saying that only men wearing spandex wear capes. Which is only half true. He also holds to the The Incredibles theory that capes tend to end badly; cape snagged on a missile fin, sucked into a jet plane engine, caught in an express elevator, sucked into a vortex. You know, bad stuff.
However, I plan to prove him wrong with this list (and by list I mean 3 pictures and a bit of writing) that I have created of awesome people with capes, and why they're better than him. And everyone else. And I mean that in the nicest way.

Number one: Dracula.

Dracula has pointy teeth. He also happens to be a vampire. Dracula is better than you.

Number two: Batman

Despite having no actual super power (we're talking super-strength, super-speed, mind powers, and being able to wear underwear on the outside), Batman still beats bad guys. According to Dylan Moran, he is also better than Jesus. Batman is better than you. He also has a really cool car (and later, motorbike), both of which are better than you.

Number three: Freddie Mercury.

Freddie Mercury is better than you at everything.

Friday the 13th meets Valentine's Day

It's Valentine's Day today. On a Saturday. Which meant yesterday was Friday the 13th. And guess what. I didn't realise until 12:30am this morning. I'm so ashamed!
Anyway, they were playing the original Addam's Family on Fox Classics this morning, and it reminded me that Morticia and Gomez are perhaps the cutest couple ever.

It's a Beautiful Night for the End of the World

So. Long time, no blog. I had a few things come up. I've decided I'm going to show you my excuses, in sort of an illustrated version of "I was too lazy."

1. Not terribly exciting, but I went back to daily routines.
2. Starting learning something new. I forgot to take my camera with me, which is pretty rare, as I'm normally attached to it, so this isn't the mixing console I get to learn to use. Ours is pretty much the same though. A little smaller, because we don't have as many inputs/outputs, and instead of having a nice big view of the stage, we're in a tiny little room about 2x2 metres, with a little window for us to see. Oh, and we're much, much higher up.

3. My mother had another exhibition opening. I also made her business card. Which I don't have photos of, but probably will soon because I've got about twenty sitting around in my bag.

4. Victoria suffered the worst bush fires in history. I was out of town for the two days preceding the fires, and then couldn't return home because the road home was blocked off due to the town it passes through being on fire. It's been a pretty horrible few days, and my friends who happened to be 2 kilometres from the fire all told me that it seemed kinda like the apocalypse.
I don't blame them. These photos were taken from the backyard of my house.

Now, I wasn't home when these photos were taken so I can't all I know is what you see here, but the only editing done was to minimise the image size. The time-stamp on the camera says they were all taken between 5pm and 5:15pm. The sun normal sets this time of year at 8pm. Pretty amazing, in one of those "I shouldn't be finding this pretty because almost 200 people are dead" ways.

So. I'm back.
