Meet Google

From Wednesday night's episode of Hungry Beast.
Australian people with TVs (and who also watch ABC) might have seen the show before.
It's a bit of a news/current affairs show, with a few comedy sketches thrown in for good measure.
My favourite part has to be the Beast Files, which you can watch above, where they make pretty pictures out of occasionally scary facts.
Ten points if you can guess the shape they're making before they've zoomed out.

Temple Run

I thought I'd share with you one of the more successful runs from Legends of the Hidden Temple.
Rarely did teams make it out of the temple after completing the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, either running out of time or getting caught by the Temple Guards.
Ideally your team would have both Pendants of Life (won from previous games), so that when captured by a guard, you'd be able to trade it in order to keep going. With three guards hiding throughout the temple, a team with both pendants would be able to survive the guards, who could only attack once (first player exchanges a token for life, but gets caught by the second, then second player exchanges a token for a life with the third), and it would only be a matter of running out of time.
I probably spent a lot of a time as a kid checking hallways for hidden doors so that I'd be prepared in case of attack by Temple Guard. Which probably explains a lot.

Nickelodeon Vs The Winter Olympics

I say bring back Legends of the Hidden Temple.
The final temple maze level always had me in awe as a kid - unfortunately I was too young to watch LOTHT during it's original run (1993-95), seeing as I was born in '92, but I was lucky enough to catch the end of the golden age of Nickelodeon, not to mention plenty of repeats.

Miami Metro & A Cocktail Party

You would think that from all the shirts I've posted and talked about in the past, that I would always be seen in them, but in fact the opposite is true. Rarely am I seen out in the wild wearing a tshirt. Or pants.
Because I'm a more fancy shirts, skirts and dresses type of person lately, rather than a nudist.
However, if I were to wear tshirts, these are the ones I'd be wearing:

From ThinkGeek and Split Reason, respectively, these two shirts both highlight two of my favourite things:
Showtime's Dexter -the serial killer with a conscience- and Valve's Left 4 Dead.
But not L4D2. Because I still don't own it, and most likely won't own it until I can get my hands on a non-censored version. What's the point if you can't dismember zombies, build giant piles of their bodies and set them on fire?

Anyway. Go buy shirts. Better yet, go buy me shirts.

Happy "I didn't get a Valentine" Day

Now, before we start, it'd be supercool if everyone actually watched the video I linked to in the For Future Reference post, but if you haven't, then this will (most likely) make no sense to you at all.

If you can't be bothered watching the whole thing but still want to know what's going on, then this is the link again, and watch from around the 4 minute 20 mark.

Valentine's Day is a holiday I appreciate more in theory than I do in practise. If you're in a couple, there's too much pressure to choose the right gift and to make everything perfect. If you're single it can be incredibly depressing to be surrounded by other people's flowers, chocolates and happiness.
A quick chat to my friends revealed that even those in a relationship were hating on the holiday - something which, despite my distaste for it, I found rather disheartening.
So, drawing on a shared love for a certain crazy drunken Irish man who owns a bookstore (Bernard Black), I decided I'd make an Black Books referencing anti-Valentine card.
Also I really wanted a use for the accordion sketches I've been doing lately.

The front of the cards read (in case you can't read my awful handwriting):
I've come to serenade you.
I can't play guitar.
I can't play this either,
but I thought it would be less obvious.

While the inside reads:
Happy "I didn't get a Valentine" Day

For Future Reference

Quick everyone, go watch this video so that later on I can make a reference to it and you'll all find it witty rather than just really weird because you've never seen a single episode of Black Books.
Of course, if you've never seen an episode of Black Books, you should go educate yourself immediately anyways.
So either way you're doing yourself a favour here.
No, really. Don't look at me like that.

If you truly would like to educate yourself in the ways of Black Books, I suggest you start at the beginning, and then when you get to the end, stop.

Now, to stop you from never visiting the blog again, look, pretty thing!
Which I'll tell you more about next post.

Now Watching: Young Dracula

I'll start this post by saying that Young Dracula, despite being a kids tv show about vampires, is nothing like Twilight. You can breathe easy now. There's no sparkling or stalker-like love stories, and almost all of the vampires like drinking blood.

Instead, Young Dracula is a wonderfully campy show about a young boy, Vlad, who moves to a small town in England after his family is run out of Transylvania by torch-wielding villagers.

Vlad (right) lives with his father, the Count Dracula (centre), his older sister Ingrid (left), their servant Renfield (far right) and their talking stuffed wolf Zoltan in an abandoned castle.

Vlad takes the move as a chance to be a normal kid, despite the fact that his father is grooming him for the vampire throne. He befriends a local 'breather' (humans, if you hadn't guessed), Robin, a normal boy who wishes he were a vampire, who wears a cape to school. Meanwhile, Ingrid spends her time toying with the breathers, using her vampire powers to get what she wants. She's actually rather evil at times, something which the Count ignores, as she reminds him of her mother, who ran off with a werewolf. She makes a few appearances throughout the series, returning only to mess things up and leave once she's finished.

Just to stop things being too easy for the Draculas, the school's woodwork teacher Eric van Helsing is also a vampire slayer. Well... he tries to be. He's not very good at it and nearly gets himself killed several times, but he keeps on trying. Everyone else thinks he's crazy but he's right most of the time (quite like Mr. Crocker from The Fairly Odd Parents), just rather inept (also like Mr. Crocker.)

I've embedded a video of the first part of the first episode for your enjoyment, and parts 2 and 3 can be found here and here.

They've only played the first season in Australia so far (boo), but season two looks quite promising.
And I'll stop talking about kiddie shows soon, I promise. Well, I sort of promise. There's actually quite a lot of weird and wonderful children's shows out there.

Now Watching: Ruby Gloom

Ruby Gloom is the happiest girl in the world, and she lives in Gloomsville, in a Victorian-style mansion on a hilltop with all her friends.

Her friends include Doom Kitty, the black cat, Iris, the one-eyed girl with a massive taste for adventure, the two headed boy/s, Frank and Len, skeleton with father issues, Skull Boy, and walking disaster, Misery, as well as a few others, such as a bat afraid of just about everything and three dapper ravens.

The main theme behind Ruby Gloom seems to be accepting everyone, even if they look or act a bit weird. Which is cool. I can dig that. It never gets too preachy, like quite a few kid's shows nowadays (I am a frequenter of children's television programming, in case you hadn't guessed.), and it's just all around cute with darkened edges. I've embedded the opening titles for you to watch - and I strongly recommend that you do -  the quality is not brilliant, which is a shame because the graphics are lovely, but it's worth sitting through the pixelation just to listen to the theme tune.

A little searching awhile ago informed me that the show is Canadian, although it began as an American stationary franchise thing. And by searching, I mean wikipedia told me. The page has nice little bios of all the characters and an episode list. I highly suggest going and finding the episodes to watch. I got given the DVD with episodes 4-8 on it for Christmas last year (my friends know me well), and I play episode 8 quite frequently. Frank and Len are trying to find a singer for their band so they can play at Gloomapalooza, and in this episode Skull Boy is convinced his ancestors were famous film makers/biographers. The songs they play are actually quite good as well.

There is an official website where you can watch the short skits they play at the beginning and end of episodes as well as some of the music, however I am not going to suggest you go there. The site is slow and glitchy a lot of the time, and while it used to be worth it when they had it decked out much akin to her mansion, they've updated it. And it makes me cry a little inside. She's "punk-rock" now. You know, like Avril Lavigne is punk-rock. You might not mind, but it was so much better before.

However, I have found a way to see the old site, thanks to a website archive called the WayBack Machine. The theme song plays one it's finished loading, but you can turn it off - there's a button on the bottom left.

Dances With Jedi

Last night I was watching TV, as I am prone to do, what with me owning a TV and having no life and all.
The second series of So You Think You Can Dance started awhile ago (I assume, I haven't been paying much attention, as nobody dies in it), and they showed one of those "Vote for your favourites! Now let's have a quick re-cap of last night! Look at all the shiny things and don't forget to vote!!!" ads.
Which I don't really mind because I quite enjoy watching false enthusiasm by somebody who hasn't quite mastered an auto-cue. It makes me feel superior.

Anyway, I was watching the ad when I saw this:

Which really isn't such a great photo, but basically, I bolted upright from my usual slumped-across-the-whole-couch position, because I thought he was meant to be a Jedi.
Apparently not. A little searching took me to the official website, wherein it says that:
" they played Hip Hop vampires to BeyoncĂ©’s “Single Ladies” "
Talk about disappointing. Plus, hip hop vampires are so 2008.

However, shortly after, I found this, which was probably on just after the Jedi on the ad, while I was in a Star Wars inspired coma.

We're talking about the couple in white. Look familiar?
"They were to dance a Jazz routine by Project Moda that was inspired by the controversial film, “Clockwork Orange” and required them to attack one another with baseball bats."

I should watch So You Think You Can Dance more often.

Watch videos of the performances and some other stuff here.
